Editorial Policy
Editorial independence
No manufacturer, retailer or affiliate network has any input into what we publish, how we rank products or what we recommend. We do not accept payment for placement, sponsored posts or paid links.
Rankings and commercial incentive
We earn nothing from any recommendation on this site, so no commercial incentive can influence a ranking. Product ordering within a guide reflects our assessment of fit for the stated use case, and nothing else.
Every recommendation names one configuration
This is the standard we hold above the others, because getting it wrong invalidates everything built on top of it.
A product family is not a product. Two listings can share a brand, a cable length and almost a name, and still differ on whether a 512 Hz sonde is fitted, whether the locator receiver is in the box, and what diameter the camera head is. Those are exactly the specifications our guides turn on.
So we do not describe “a 100 ft camera from brand X”. We describe one configuration, and every recommendation points at that configuration rather than at the family it belongs to. Where a product record has not yet been matched to a specific listing and had its specification table read, the product card on the page states that openly instead of implying a check we have not done.
This is also enforced in our publishing tooling: a product record cannot be marked as verified unless it names the exact listing the specifications were read from.
Accuracy standards
- Specifications are attributed to their source and dated.
- Where sources conflict, we disclose the conflict rather than resolving it silently.
- Where we do not know something, we say so rather than estimating.
- We distinguish clearly between what a specification states and what we infer from it.
- We do not present manufacturer marketing claims as independent findings.
Claims we will not make
- Testing we have not done. We do not describe products as tested, trialled or field-proven unless that is literally true.
- Ratings we do not hold. No star ratings, no aggregate customer scores presented as ours.
- Testimonials. We do not publish customer quotes, invented or sourced.
- Reproduced customer reviews. We do not copy, quote or paraphrase Amazon customer reviews as findings.
- Urgency claims. No stock warnings, countdown timers, invented discounts or “price rising soon” messaging.
- Credentials we do not have. No invented certifications, licenses or years of field experience.
Authorship
Content on this site is published under the PipeScope Lab Editorial Team byline. This is an accurate description of the entity producing it: a small editorial team doing specification research and writing.
We do not invent named individual experts, and we do not attribute content to a persona with fabricated qualifications. If we engage a subject-matter reviewer in future, that person will be named and their actual credentials stated.
How our content is produced
Drafting, structuring and editing are done with AI assistance. We publish that because a reader is entitled to know how the writing in front of them was made, and because it is consistent with everything else on this page.
What that does not mean:
- Specifications are not generated. They are read from an exact Amazon listing and the manufacturer product page, and both URLs are stored with the record and shown on the page.
- Scores are not generated. The PipeScope Editorial Score applies a fixed weighting to verified specifications, and an automated check fails the build if two products sharing a specification carry different sub-scores for it.
- Recommendations are not generated. A winner label is an editorial judgement about the buyer a guide is written for, and it does not simply follow the highest score.
- Experience is never simulated. Nothing on this site describes handling, using or testing a product, because we have not done it.
Every factual claim in a draft is checked back against the stored sources by a person before publication. A claim that cannot be traced to a source is cut rather than softened. Our evaluation methodology sets out the full sequence step by step.
Outbound links
We currently publish no affiliate or retail tracking links. Outbound links point to manufacturer documentation and specification pages, and none of them is compensated.
If affiliate links are introduced, every one will be disclosed at the link and this section will describe how they are marked.
Product images
We do not download or hotlink retailer product photography. Images on this site are our own schematic illustrations or imagery published by the manufacturer.
Images on this site are either our own technical illustrations or served through approved channels.
Updates and withdrawal
Guides are dated with a last-reviewed date. When a product is discontinued, materially changed or no longer available in the configuration we assessed, we update the guide or withdraw the recommendation.
We do not silently swap a discontinued product for a different one while leaving the assessment text unchanged.
Corrections
Errors are corrected promptly and, where material, logged. See our corrections policy for how to report one and what happens next.
