How to choose
Head diameter is a hard limit; everything else is a trade
Get cable length wrong and you see less of the pipe than you hoped. Get head diameter wrong and you see none of it — the camera will not enter, and no technique recovers that.

Pace the run before you look at a single cable spec
Walk from your cleanout to the street connection or septic tank and count your paces. Then add margin, because pushrod does not travel in a straight line and every bend eats length you did not budget for.
Under roughly 80 paced feet, 100 ft is right. Past that, read 100 ft vs 165 ft before assuming longer is better — it costs you flexibility.
The sonde question is the one you cannot revisit later
Ask yourself whether a finding could lead to digging. If it could, buy a camera with a built-in 512 Hz sonde now. The sonde sits inside the camera head, and on consumer reels that assembly is not designed to be swapped.

Self-leveling is about your audience, not your eyesight
Experienced operators read a rolling picture without much difficulty. The people who cannot are your customers, your insurer and anyone reading your report months later.
If footage leaves your hands, pay for self-leveling. If it does not, spend the difference on locating instead.
Ask what happens when the camera head floods

Camera head diameter. It is the only specification that can make a camera physically unusable in your pipe. A 23 mm head will not enter a 2 in line no matter how good the rest of the system is, whereas running short on cable means you saw less than you wanted.
Do I need a camera with a 512Hz sonde?
Only if you might dig. A sonde is a transmitter in the camera head that a surface receiver can locate, letting you mark a fault position and estimate its depth. If your inspection will only ever tell you whether to call a plumber, you can skip it and save meaningfully.
How long a cable do I need?
Pace out the distance from your cleanout to the street connection or septic tank and add a margin for bends. Most residential laterals are covered by 100 ft. Rural properties and homes set well back from the road are where 165 ft becomes necessary.
